Club Coaches
Matthew Simpson
Matthew is a former Woodville little athlete and represented SA at the Pacific School Games as a sprinter and jumper. Rediscovering the sport with his 3 boys, Matthew has recently gained accreditation as a level 2 club coach through Athletics Australia. He is a self employed Interior Designer who combines private practice with tutoring and mentoring in furniture design and interior architecture at UniSA.
As a coach the emphasis is on the athlete's participation and enjoyment. Training will combine a games based approach encouraging team Bonding as well as focusing on improving the individual athlete's general fitness, speed, agility, coordination and event specific techniques.
I look forward to being a part of the success of our little athletes - see you on the track!
Melissa Fraser
I am a mother of 3 young boys whom a couple of years ago started little athletics at Woodville. Many years ago now I started as an under 6 Athlete with Woodville and went through to under 16. I was the first member to achieve 150 meets. I continued with Senior Athletics competing for Port Adelaide Athletics Club, concentrating on the throwing events. I represented South Australia as a hammer thrower in both Under 16 & Under 18. I have since concentrated on officiating and officiated at the Sydney 2000 Olympic & Para Olympic Games, the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and various senior & Junior Nationals. Up until a year ago I was still throwing out at Santos on a Saturday afternoon while officiating. Before having my first child nearly 8 years ago I was coaching a variety of athletes in the throwing events for Port Adelaide Athletics Club. I always enjoyed coaching and recently updated my coaching knowledge by sitting the level 2 Club Coach’s course. I am hoping that I can share my knowledge of the sport with the young athletes at Woodville so they can have fun, learn and improve.
